Change Your Diet, Change Your Life
Everyone wants the benefits of healthy eating, but for many people, our modern atmosphere makes it extremely difficult to achieve. There are so many delicious, cheap, convenient choices out there that it seems harder than ever to control eating habits. To expect everyone to exercise the same amount of self-control in avoiding these foods when everyone’s circumstances are different—and appetites are variable—is unrealistic.
The fact is, most people—especially those who are reading this right now— are not going out of their way to make unhealthy choices when it comes to food. It is usually done because of time and convenience, financial issues and necessity, and many times just a general lack of knowledge of what healthy food is and how beneficial it can truly be.
They also don’t realize that, with some proper direction and practical information, almost all their impediments to eating healthier can be mitigated.
A proper diet is not just about losing weight. It is about feeling good, looking healthy, and making your life more enjoyable.
And therein lies the problem. The amount of misinformation, myths, pseudo-knowledge, and just plain outdated advice about food and nutrition out there is so massive that it dwarfs the information about all the other areas covered on this site combined. And unlike facts about proper sleep or exercise habits, proper dietary advice can be completely contradictory, with different scientific studies seeming to advocate altogether different eating regimens.
Just go to the diet section of a bookstore and have a look. And the problem is that each one of these conflicting diet books—from Atkins, to Low fat, to Paleo, to High carb—point to various scientific studies that back up their claims (I explain how that is possible here).
Luckily, in many other ways, it has also become easier than ever to adopt a healthy eating lifestyle. There is much more scientifically sound nutritional information, better methods of how to incorporate that knowledge into your lifestyle to form habits, endless healthy and tasty recipes, and greater access to healthy food in general. It’s just that people have been bombarded with so much information, it’s really hard to know where to start, and much like finding the most effective ways to exercise, it becomes too easy to get overwhelmed.
It is understandable that many people feel helpless. They think they are too far into an unhealthy lifestyle—past the point of no return—and that it would be pointless to even try.
That is nonsense. It is a trick your mind is playing on you to keep the status quo, because you know it is much easier to make excuses than taking real action in the short term. In the long term, though, the opposite is true: Your life will be much easier if you take action now instead of making excuses.
The implications of our dietary choices are crucial, and we should all strive to at least be somewhat knowledgeable about how what we eat affects us.
I urge you to go to this site and check out these real examples of people who transformed their lives. Click on those pictures and also read the comments. It is important you realize what exactly is possible by just changing what you eat.
